A passion project if you will. I had become frustrated with street fashion pieces focusing on places that reflected a similarity to American and European examples. To me the capital of fashion wasn’t Braamfontein or Rosebank - it was to be found in the inner city, taxi ranks and places inhabited by a cross section of Africans.

This film was developed as part of the Encounters Documentary Lab in 2014. Highlands is an experimental documentary that attempts to condense time to tell a layered story about a single location. It tells the story of Johannesburg and it’s relationship to water, spirituality and commerce.
